General Contractors Information
A contractor can mean many things. In fact there are many different sub categories of Contractors in Oregon. They are as follows: Subcontractor, Independent Contractor, and General Contractor. A Subcontractor refers to an individual or in many cases a business that signs a contract to perform part or all of the obligations of another person or companies contract. Subcontractors are usually hired by a general contractor to perform a specific task as part of the overall project and is normally paid for services provided to the project by the originating general contractor. An independent contractor is a person, business, or corporation that provides goods or services to another entity under terms specified in a contract or within a verbal agreement. Unlike an employee, an independent contractor does not work regularly for an employer but works as and when required, during which time he or she may be subject to the Law of Agency. General Contractors are responsible for the day-to-day oversight of construction sites, management of vendors and trades, and keeping communication between the involved parties open and clear throughout the course of a project. There are many requirements and licenses required for contractors of all kinds.
